What is Discover Orthodoxy?
Discover Orthodoxy is a free mobile app designed as a companion for exploring and living the Orthodox Christian faith. It includes daily saint commemorations, Scripture readings, a fasting guide, a full prayer book, liturgical texts, hymns, a church locator, a glossary, curated articles, recommended books, and a complete catechism course companion. It is available on iOS and Android.
Is the app free?
Yes, completely free. There are no subscriptions, no advertisements, and no in-app purchases. Discover Orthodoxy was built as a gift for the community and will remain free for everyone.
Do I need to be Orthodox to use it?
Not at all. The app is designed for everyone — whether you are Orthodox, exploring the faith, coming from another Christian tradition, or simply curious. The vast majority of the app is accessible without an account. Only the catechism course features require a course access code.
Do I need a course access code?
Only if you are enrolled in the Discover Orthodoxy catechism course. The access code unlocks course-specific features like progress tracking, session notes, and the ability to ask questions. Your instructor will provide the code at your first session. All other features of the app are available to everyone without a code.
What devices does it support?
Discover Orthodoxy is available on iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android devices. It requires iOS 16 or later, or Android 8.0 or later. The app is optimised for phones but works beautifully on tablets as well.
Does it work offline?
Yes, all content works without an internet connection. The app downloads everything it needs and stores it locally on your device. You can read prayers, follow the liturgy, look up glossary terms, and browse articles even with no signal at all. The app will sync new content automatically when you reconnect.
Is my data private?
We take privacy seriously. The app and website use analytics tools (PostHog, Google Analytics, and Microsoft Clarity) to understand how the product is used and to improve it. We do not sell your data or share it with third parties for their own purposes. We never read your notes or track your individual prayer habits. Your session notes and bookmarks are stored securely and belong to you. You can opt out of analytics in the app's Settings screen, and on the website via the cookie consent banner.
How do I report an issue?
If you encounter a bug or have a suggestion, please email us at hello@discoverorthodoxy.co.uk. Include a description of the issue and what device you are using, and we will do our best to address it promptly.
Who built this?
Discover Orthodoxy was built for the Greek Orthodox community in the United Kingdom, under the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain. It was created to support the Discover Orthodoxy catechism programme and to serve as a resource for anyone interested in the Orthodox faith.
Can I contribute content?
